Welcome to The Writing Ranch— your path back to creativity! Join us this summer as we push our creative boundaries in this 8-week course. Class meet via Zoom one night a week.

We’ll use Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way as our go-to inspiration and writing bible. We’ll also dip into Suleika Jaouad’s The Book of Alchemy: A Creative Practice for an Inspired Life, Twyla Tharp’s The Creative Habit: Learn It and Use It For Life, Natalie Goldberg’s Writing Down the Bones: Freeing the Writer Within, Anne Lamott’s Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life, The Letters of Virginia Woolf, Volume 3, and Joyce Carol Oates’ Master Class: The Art of the Short Story.

  • Week 1: Recovering a Sense of Safety

  • Week 2: Recovering a Sense of Identity

  • Week 3: Recovering a Sense of Power

  • Week 4: Recovering a Sense of Integrity

  • Week 5: Recovering a Sense of Possibility

  • Week 6: Recovering a Sense of Abundance

  • Week 7: Recovering a Sense of Connection

  • Week 8: Recovering a Sense of Strength

Writers will have an opportunity to share work in class and submit 40 pages of work (double-spaced, in 14-point font) for line edits and feedback throughout the course.

NOTE: Writers are required to buy or borrow a copy of The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron as the foundational text for this course.
